I often get asked this question, especially by those who are recently starting to open themselves to a range of holistic therapies and have never even heard of one or either of these energy modalities.
So, this write up is dedicated to both these amazing gentle therapies and what a session with me might look like.
Let’s get into it!
Starting with Reiki…
Reiki is an energy healing technique in which a Reiki practitioner uses gentle hand movements with the intention to guide the flow of healthy energy (what’s known in Reiki as life force energy) through the client’s body to reduce stress and promote healing. Some of this is hands on and areas where hands will be slightly above the physical body.
Life force energy is like the heart & soul of LIFE which keeps constantly flowing around as well as inside the body providing life to keep forming not only the energy of our consciousness, but also regulating all our conscious and unconscious bodily functions like our breath, digestion, blood flow, elimination, and cellular health.
Mikao Usui developed reiki in the early 1900s, deriving the term from the Japanese word’s rei, meaning “universal,” and ki, which refers to the vital life force energy that flows through all living things.
Reiki practitioners act as a conduit between you and the source of the universal life force energy. The energy flows through the practitioner’s hands to you. This process is non-invasive and has a powerful effect on the body.
What could reiki help with?
- Improved sleep
- Balanced moods and energy
- Increased energy
- Research suggests Reiki helps the body return to a state of relaxation, which allows it to potentially better heal from damage brought on by stress, injury, or disease.
- Calming the mind
- Reducing anxiety
- Connection
As you can see Reiki is a very gentle session, as a client you lay with an openness to receive the energy, but you will notice that during a Chakra Balancing you may need to be a bit more active during your treatment! Read on to learn why.

Chakra Balancing……..
Chakra (cakra in Sanskrit) means “wheel” and refers to energy points in your body. They are thought to be spinning disks of energy that should stay “open” and aligned, as they correspond to bundles of nerves, major organs, and areas of our energetic body that affect our emotional and physical well-being.
There are many methods used to balance chakra, some use crystals, sound, oils, meditation, visualization and many others.
At Essence & Soul there is a guided journey within each of the chakra, using a mix of breath, visualization and Tibetan sound bowls to create a sensory journey to release all that no longer serves you, allowing space for more love & light in your life.
We start at the base chakra and go on a short visualization to allow connection to the space before we continue up the chakra line.
During each chakra I guide you through the process, giving you opportunities to release, to feel, to think, to love and to balance.
Each Chakra has its own purpose and unique set of characteristics. When we balance each one, we may as a whole be able to…..
- Release stuck emotions and blocked energies
- Create harmony
- Allow energy to flow
- Let go of disfunction within the mind and body
- Relax the mind, body & soul
- Connect with your inner-self
- Increase your level of openness
So, what do these chakra do? I haven’t gone into too much depth here as there are pages upon pages I could write about each one, so in short….
CROWN – This chakra is all about spiritual connection and transformation. It lifts and inspires you, connecting you to the divine (you might call this angelic energy, the Source, or God.) This chakra also gives you a sense of your own divinity, the awareness that you are a soul in a human body.
THIRD EYE – The third eye chakra, also known as Ajna, is considered to be the sixth chakra in the body. This chakra is said to be located in the center of your head, parallel to the middle of your eyebrows. It’s believed to be linked to perception, awareness, and spiritual communication.
THROAT – Is the center of communication, emotion, and creativity. It affects your ability to be honest and express your thoughts. When your throat chakra is imbalanced or blocked, it can be difficult for energy to flow in the area.
HEART – In Sanskrit, “anahata” means unhurt, unstruck and unbeaten. It is the fourth primary chakra and serves as our center of love for oneself and others, compassion, empathy and forgiveness. The anahata chakra is associated with unconditional love, compassion, and joy.
SOLAR PLEXUS – Is responsible for self-esteem, boundaries, and willpower. Working with the solar plexus chakra helps us unlock deeper levels of authenticity in our lives and develop the confidence to stand in our truth.
SACRAL – This chakra plays an important role in our well-being, awakening our creativity and sexual energy while maintaining the healthy functioning of our bladder, kidneys, and reproductive organs.
BASE – Is located at the base of your spine. It provides you with a base or foundation for life, and it helps you feel grounded and able to withstand challenges. Your root chakra is responsible for your sense of security and stability.
With both sessions allowing you to move energy through the body, mind & soul they have many similarities with end results, however, with the chakra balancing as you will have read, you are more engaged during the session, unless of course like many others you fall asleep, which is also quite fine as your subconscious will absorb all that I am guiding you with.
I hope you found this helpful, if you are unsure what you might benefit from reach out to me, or try both and see what resonates with you the most, it is so powerful to have a wide range of tools in your wellness toolkit!
Love & Light,
Milinda X
